As an environmentally conscious Maine citizen and paying recipient of energy from Versant, I urge you to deny and reject CMP's request that rate-payers should fund a $63 million expansion of Section 80 to benefit Nordic Aquafarms. This expansion appears severely problematic for the coastal ecosystem.

Nordic Fish Farms is requesting a 22 mile long power line in Belfast which would be 80 feet high (an increase of 32 feet) and the clearcut along the sides would increase form 75 feet to 105 feet. Fulfilling this request is wrong for these reasons: This expansion would substantially negatively affect ecosystems. It would significantly detract from the beauty of the Belfast area. Ratepayers who will receive no benefit from Nordic Farm's presence here would be required to pay for this upgrade which equals the power used by six Midcoast cities. *** What law or principle says that the public should subsidize foreign or even domestic corporations? If the PUC is mandated to protect the people of Maine, you must deny this request and all others like them.

I urge you to heed the Maine Office of the Public Advocate and The Efficiency Maine Trust's advice and deny CMP's request for a $63 million power grid upgrade needed for a proposed ecologically destructive, undesired (by the vast majority) land-based Atlantic salmon torturing factory. Especially as their morally bankrupt corporate welfare scheme is based on passing as much of the bill as possible on to we the overburdened peasantry. Totally egregious; why are we even entertaining this request? Back in 2008 when the Maine PUC approved then Maine-based CMP's purchase by Spain-based Iberdrola, we were assured that "Consumers will see better service quality, new investment and support for conservation initiatives as a result of this transaction," by then PUC chair Kurt Adams. I think we can all agree that this has so not been the case. We need publicly owned utilities NOW. And friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon; ever. It's just gross.

I am contacting you to express grave concern regarding Central Maine Power's request to the Maine Public Utilities Commission for an upgrade to allow CMP to serve the power requirements for Nordic Aquafarms Belfast, Maine facility. It will be deeply inequitable if Maine ratepayers are forced to share the cost-burden for this upgrade. I urge MPUC to deny the request that will benefit only Nordic Aquafarms and CMP. A

I ask that you deny approval of CMP's request of non-transmission alternative project for the mid-coast (docket 2011-00138). I understand that this upgrade will enable Nordic Aquafarms to take approximately 28 MW of power off the electrical grid in order to operate a salmon-farming facility near Belfast, Maine. I firmly believe that the public should not bear the cost of the proposed upgrade project. I also firmly believe that the use of 28 MW to produce farm-raised salmon is an energy injustice. Salmon is one of the costliest fish foods, at least $7 per pound in the US for farm-raised. For a family of low or moderate means, salmon will not be a grocery choice compared to less costly protein sources. Directing our much needed power to a salmon farm which does not produce a product accessible to most of the population is simply unjust. The PUC cannot objectively rule that there is a societal benefit.

Please do not approve the "upgrades" to the power transmission lines so that a foreign company can use more power than all of the towns in the mid-coast combined. It makes no sense for the ratepayers to bear this burden when it is being done to meet the needs of a private, for-profit company. I strongly oppose approval of this project. Thank you.

The proposed expansion of section 80 of CMP's power grid is unnecessary. The primary reason for the expansion would be to provide electricity to Nordic Aquafarms' planned land-based salmon farm in Belfast. If Nordic Aquafarms truly needs this power grid expansion to operate, then they can pay for it themselves. There is no need for CMP ratepayers to pay for the electricity needs of one company's project.

I do not want any upgrades approved for the sake of Nordic Aquafarms. I do not want to pay for anything pertaining to Nordic Aquafarms.
