As a resident on Route 3 this request for MPUC investigation should be considered very carefully and/or dismissed without prejudice to the interests of others. A 10 person complaint is a very low bar when seeking redress and in this request, which has universal merit, the desire to substitue one route for another inposes the same kind of impact the parties are seeking to avoid as the original Emera route proposal. Route 3 has an "All American Scenic Byway" designation. Its propose is to protect cultural, scenic and natural settings for the benefit of all who live on and travel the corridor. It is also the primary entry into the Town of Bar Harbor, a national and international tourist destination. Although it is congested in the summer months it is by no means a major highway in look, feel and purpose. Rather it is the introduction to a slower more enjoyable way of life in a scenic setting that in many ways is unique to Maine. While participating with the Advisory Committee formed by Emera to explore the various options, facts on the ground and feeling and attitudes of the participants I've come to the conclusion that, of the total number of citizens of Bar Harbor on the Committee, they are weighted in favor of the Route 3 alternate and, the overall reasons opposing the original Crooked Road routing apply equally to the Route 3 alternate. One of the reasons brought to the Advisory Committee for considering the Route 3 alternate is the synergy of the soon to be rebuilt last section of Route 3 into Bar Harbor and the power line upgrade. The permanent change taking place in front of my home and the short 2 mile overlap of the rebuild and transmission line has remarkably little overall value when considering all other ramifications for installing a transmission line along the Route 3 corridor. We all want to protect the place live and love. I too want the same and simply shifting routes to satisfy some community members also divides community.
