Ms. Cottle: Thank you for your prompt reply. That in itself is encouraging as I have had many slow response communications with the PUC. Let me go into a bit more detail regarding my interaction with Fairpoint.

Over the years, Fairpoint has not been meeting customer service needs, failing quite miserably actually and the PUC continues to impose fines, to no avail. It is a self serving money grab at best. There are no improvements, nothing changes. The problems are never addressed, always the same issues, worded differently each time with different excuses but in the end, the same miserable results.

We moved to Maine October 2015. We paid several thousand dollars to have electric service brought 1100+ feet from where it terminated North of us. When we ordered phone service Fairpoint Communications said it would cost over $5000 to bring service the same 1100+ feet. We had paid to have the telephone poles installed when electric service was brought to the house. We couldn't understand why Fairpoint would charge $5000+ when we already had the poles installed. Because of their very high price we were unable to have land line phone & Internet service from them. I'd seen the Public Utilities Commission was fining Fairpoint for other issues, thought I'd let you know our story as well.

To start let me say I am a AT&T management retiree and had 32 years with them in many positions so that I am very familiar with what a telephone service should be. In my humble opinion Fairpoint Communications doe not know how to be a telephone company. The PUC and those in government who OK'd that deal should be ashamed of themselves. Not only had Verizon let its infrastructure degrade before selling the Maine portion but the PUC should have seen that Fairpoint would not be able to provide even the crippled service that they had allowed Verizon to provide. The public at large, it seems wanted the deregulation that now exists but they did not know or understand what that would do to the quality and reliability of telephone service. Telephone quality is awful due to the many interconnections with equipment that does not meet interconnect parameters. Many connection are using VOIP and when you put several of these together the result is audio that is nearly if not entirely useless. I am told by reliable sources within Fairpoint that they no longer have cable groups to repair and upgrade subscriber cable and short of switching pairs the customer be damned. I have seen it first hand and was told by a supervisor that if a dry pair was not available then I would have to live with the noise of wet pairs. That is not a way to run a telephone company. Try calling their repair telephone number 1-866-984-1611 and you reach a voice mail of such poor quality it is extremely difficult to determine what number to dial to be connected to a live person. In my experience when you reach a technician they oft time are not at all helpful or understand what the customer wants. That is not a way to run a telephone company!
