TO: Commissioners of Maine's Public Utilities Commission Maine, As a Mainer concerned about the rising cost of healthcare, increased property taxes, and everyday expenses, I urge you to deny Emera Maine's most recent request for an electric distribution rate increase. First, this is the third rate increase Emera Maine has requested in less than five years. This is unaffordable for most Maine families, especially those living on fixed incomes. Second, Congress gave Emera Maine a historic corporate tax cut as part of the Tax Cut bill earlier this year. Why haven't those savings been passed down to Maine consumers and their customers? Third, Mainers take pride in self-reliance. We expect a similar reliability when it comes to turning on the lights, heating up our cook-tops, and plugging in our phones and TVs. This reliable service should come with quality customer service. Emera can do better for all Mainers and they shouldn't need to raise rates on their customers to do so. I urge the Maine Public Utilities Commission to do the right thing by denying Emera Maine's rate increase request. As a resident who is tired of seeing my electric bill go up and up, I hope our Public Utilities Commissioners will do the right thing. Sincerely, Donald Roakes 225 BEAN RD OTISFIELD, ME 04270-6038 (207) 539-4675 donroakes@myfairpoint.net
