Here we go again, Versant Power asking for another rate hike when they don't deserve it, but since the PUC is in their pockets, they will probably get their rate hike!!! How does a company with profits each year over $4 million dollars, get rate hikes approved, with the people of Maine end up paying the cost?? Just another reason that goes to show how big companies get what they want from Commissions that are biased towards the people of Maine! Versant Power asked for and was granted a rate hike back in January 2023 and now they need another one???? The people of Maine have it hard enough right now and now Versant wants to add more pressure on the citizens of this State?? This rate hike should be denied, as the people of Maine have had enough of these costs increases and should not be attacked with even more of these costs, it is ridiculous!!!!! Why do we, the people of the State Of Maine, have to suffer the greed of Versant Power and the PUC? The PUC does not turn down requests from Versant Power, even though they kno0w that Versant Power brings in $4 or 5 million each year in pure profits, does that tell everyone something? It does me, the PUC is in the pockets of both Power companies in the State Of Maine and the PUC cares "NOTHING" about the citizens of this State! We just had a Versant Power rate increase in January and now they need another one? Am I the only one who sees there is a problem with this bunch of crap?? This is a huge pile of cow shit!! Our opinions don't matter anyways to the PUC, they only care about how much they have in their pockets and WE DON'T MATTER! The PUC say's let's keep pillaging the people of the State of Maine, who cares whether they have enough money to survive on!

I am writing concerning this latest plan for Versant to raise their rates yet again. Twice last year our rates were raised by large amounts, and now they want more?? Over the years, I have done everything I can to keep my electricity usage down; Timers on hot water heater, switching to all CFL light bulbs when they became available, then switching again to all LED's, keeping lights off when not needed, unplugging appliances not in use. At times I could get my bill down to $45 a month. Now, it's never below $120 no matter what I do; sometimes it's $140. SAVING electricity is no longer a concern, because every 6 months Versant gets a rate hike that more than wipes out anything I can do to try to save costs. I get to pay more no matter what I do. It wouldn't be quite so hard to swallow if they didn't report record profits each time rates go up. Record profits means they really didn't need more money to continue operation, it means they just want more free money. It is not fair to Mainers. Homeowners are struggling under these constantly rising costs, and businesses are going out of business. I strongly urge MPUC to reject this latest plea for more of my money. Serve the people you work for, not those trying to sap us for every dollar they can. C.E. Cameron

I'm a single man living alone in a new house built in 2020 with ALL new appliances. I am super lucky and grateful--I know most people aren't in my position. And with Versant's last approved rate change--LAST YEAR in 2022--my bill went from $95 to $125. A 30%+ increase. I have a working-class income--but too many real people of Maine make even less than me. For instance, nearly 10% of people in Maine live on Social Security Disability alone. They're budgeting $1200 (the average SSDI payment) over all expenses of living in a month and then have the electric bill jump 30%--$30, or more for most--and now again a year later $12 to $24 ("supposedly") on top of that. I realize a publicly traded company like Versant (BANGN) has a responsibility to make it's stock price go up--but that isn't the State Of Maine's responsibility. Stocks can go up from hype, from innovation, from gaining customers, and also lowering costs and raising rates. I'm all for Capitalism--as long as no one is getting swindled and there is fair competition. Their proposed use of this increase (tree maintenance, smart meter upgrades) should be considered the cost of doing business and providing a good product to their customers to REMAIN COMPETITIVE. But it's apparent that this increase will be put toward the quarterly profit reports by CUTTING THEIR COSTS (by putting maintenance cost onto the customer) and RAISING RATES. It is not the State of Maine's responsibility to make Versant's stock go up. We people of Maine need to be protected from continually getting squeezed more and more (endlessly) just for the bottom line of Versant (BANGN) on Wall Street. This is why we have the Maine Public Utilities Commission: to protect Maine's citizens from Corporate exploitation.

I tried to access the hearing the other night which was not good. They had to mute the meeting so we could not hear any of the comments. Also when it came to the people on line it was some of the same in and out, I would think with todays tech that should not of happened. Now on Versant wanting more money to do upgrades and sustain employees, they just need to bring back employee pensions, as for upgrades they just need to keep the money in the US and not send it to Canada. You must remember when we worked there profits were around the $30 million in net money. When is enough enough. Thanks

My husband and I are retired educators living on Maine teacher pensions. We have saved enough money over the years to finally renovate our 1902 farmhouse, including adding heat pumps, a heat pump hot water heater, and electric heat in bathrooms that never had been heated. In short, we live in an electrically powered house now. In February 2023 our electric bill was $700. With these rate increases we can foresee our winter electric bill eventually at $1000 a month. We immediately turned off the heat pumps and a dehumidifier in the basement, and an air purifier. In March the bill was down to $500, but now we are heating our house with a furnace and burning hundreds of dollars of fuel oil. We did not really save any money moving back to furnace heat-and so much for Maine's goal to move away from fossil fuels. It is clear that Maine has to do something about electric rates. It is ironic that our electricity relies on fossil fuels-Natural Gas. It is unfair that we do not have a choice in our electric transmission companies, both of which are owned by entities not even in the US. Additionally, some of what we pay for electricity goes to profits for shareholders. How do these two companies balance taking care of Maine's transmission needs while making sure there is a profit for their shareholders? It adds insult to injury that the sole shareholder of Versant/ENMAX is the city of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Maybe this ensures that Calgary residents don't pay as much for THEIR electricity? Electricity is not a luxury. It is a necessity in a Global economy. If the State of Maine owned the transmission lines, at least the shareholders would be Maine people.

What I see is a never ending and self-perpetuating circle of rate increases. The utility asks for a rate increase to fund capital projects. The rate increase is approved and the work is completed. Now the utility's capital investment has increased. With rate of return regulation the utility is allowed increased rates. And, we do it again and again. Enough is enough. Break the cycle---NOW

I am incensed that once again Versant, a foreign company, is requesting a price increase, and this time a rather large one. I understand that there are expenses that Versant must address fiscally, but I would rather they focus on a more limited customer charge increase so as to take I to account the cost of inflation to customers who are already struggling. Inflation has affected many, but Versant and previously CMP has always requested price increases on an almost yearly basis. Either cancel this request or request that Versant significantly reduce its price increase. Thank you for your consideration.

I am pleased to see that Versant is asking for a rate increase. The higher, the better. The reason i say that, is because we have installed solar panels on our house and we produce more power than we use (net-zero). So as the price for power increases, we will see a shorter payback period for the panels.
