Good morning, I would like to make an anonymous comment on case 2023-00336 rate hike for Versant Power. I would not like my email listed or last name. Thank you, As a young Mainer who relies on paychecks to survive like many have been hit hard by the already numerous rate hikes you (the Maine PUC) approved. I am a one income household and having to keep paying more and more for electric isn't an easy option for me but definitely not an option for many lower income people and households. How much does the president and CEO of versant power make? Do you the PUC know that? I'm going to guess six figures or more meanwhile living in a county where the annual income is between $55,000-$59,000 and I don't even make the lesser of that a year. I work full time but shouldn't need to work 40+ hours a week at one job and part time at another to pay bills. Does the UPC know how much an electric bill is now by Versant? My guess is not since the PUC keeps approving rate hikes especially numerous times last year. Do the right thing and say no to Versant. They can budget better especially since the chances their executives make way more than an average Mainer does is pretty good. Enough is enough with rising costs, I can't demand a raise because of tariffs or cost of living why should they multiple times a year? Doesn't the Public Utility Commission work for the people of Maine and not the utility companies because it seems you always lean towards them? Please don't approve it, it's not just electric bills that people pay and those can also differ month to month. It's getting extremely frustrating when all I see is Maine UPC approved another rate hike (look at how many you approved in the last two years) I am sure they can come up with another solution. Thank you

I am writing to express my concern and frustration with the Maine PUC permitting Versant to raise prices within 2 months of our last rate hike. The average yearly salary of Versant's CEO is $672,476, according to Salary.com. The average yearly salary for residents of Aroostook county is $50,843 and the average for the full state is $58,279. Mainers cannot afford continual rate hikes. Versant has the ability to prevent these hikes. I am an educator. I make less than $42000 per year to teach at a high school in Aroostook county. This winter, our electric bill averaged about $800 per month for a 1600 square foot home. We have a propane system, black out curtains on every window, keep doors closed to effectively utilize zone heating, put additional weather stripping on our doors to prevent any possible drafts, and kept our house between 66 and 68 degrees, which I personally find uncomfortable. Even with being cold every second I spent at home this winter, our bill was still unaffordable. And we were told that we were not eligible for assistance because my wife's salary puts us just above the threshold, even though that means that without simply putting it off to pay it over the course of the year we would not be able to afford groceries - which we also are not eligible for assistance with. Versant is making a choice here. If Versant has concerns about price increases due to tariffs from Canada, Versant needs to reevaluate how they have budgeted to pay their CEO almost 3/4 of a million a year. And the PUC needs to make that clear to Versant. You have the power to do so. You choose not to, at the detriment of the people you are supposed to be working in the best interest of.

hi i receive electricity from versant power and im on limited income. if my bill is 400 dollars and versant power is going up 23.2 percent then we are going to have tariffs on the electricity bill of 25 percent how can a person survive paying that much just for electricity. i rent my home. i need to run a pump in the basement due to the fact that i have water in it all the time. how can one survive. by the time i pay rent and heat plus now light bill is going up more i wont even have enough to get my personal items. i realize costs from storms and everything but every year it has gone up. something needs to be done especially for people that are on limited income. versant power is basically the only power company for presque isle maine area so basically if they want to raise prices they do and theres nothing anybody can do about. i hope theres something going to be done about this cause alot of people are going to be without power

I'm not really sure how to write this other then it's very frustrating the rates keep increasing. It's hard enough to afford everything in these times and paying so much for such an essential part of life, is stressful. Financially, everyone is struggling to afford to just simply live. For some, living paycheck to paycheck already is tough. Please reconsider another solution, instead of raising already increased rates. Thank you.

This rate increase is criminal. The grid was neglected for years and now we are paying to fix it. Versant has the ability to shop around for materials we have no choice but to have them has a power provider. We just had a referendum question on having a state run power company and Versant and CMP parent companies were able to spend 10s of millions in a campaign against it. If they had the money to throw into a campaign why are we giving them additional money. This commission needs to look out for the Maine people and actually hold them to account for how they are spending our money. These rates are becoming unsustainable. Poor them they are impacted by inflation. Guess what we are all impacted by inflation but I don't get to file with my boss for a pay increase.

Say No to Versant Power's Request. Received a letter from Versant yesterday, seriously, a 3500% increase? Enough is enough!

I hereby submit the official opinion that this electricity rate increase is preposterous. If Versant and CMP had spent $24 million dollars on infrastructure instead of a massive No on 3 campaign, which was doomed to fail anyhow, the storms that affected us this past winter would have been a much lesser issue. Reference: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/me/maine/news/2023/10/06/maine-question3-cmp-versent-pine-tree-power- We are Mainers. We work hard and we expect our electricity to work. This is not Texas. As a child growing up in Maine, we almost never lost power, and I was outside a tiny town in the middle of central Maine. It's completely unheard of to lose power as often as we do IN A CITY, and these monopolies can beg the PUC for approval anytime they want to raise rates. They can complain about our infrastructure, but if they'd been keeping up with that instead of wasting money and padding politicians' pockets, we would not be in this situation. Reference: https://www.maine.gov/governor/mills/news/radio_address/please-vote-no-question-3-2023-09-20 Wages in Maine DO NOT allow for continued rate hikes. We can't afford houses. We can't afford rent. We are PLEADING. Reference: https://www.bangordailynews.com/2023/06/17/business/maine-apartments-are-unaffordable-joam40zk0w/ Do not allow this rate increase. Force these monopolies to dig into the pockets of their C-suite and chastize them for not spending money to keep up our infrastructure. I live in town, and cannot even believe the amount of times I've lost power for transformers that have aged out blowing up. No, no, no more rate increases.

Power in Maine is far too expensive. We are one of the most poor states yet electricity is in the top 5. You wanted us to buy heat pumps, then rates double/triple.. its not worth running them all winter long like it used to be. Now the latest push is electric vehicles.. well most EVs average 2.4 miles per KwH in Maine over the course of the year since winter hits their efficiency - that makes it 12.4 cents a mile (not counting charger inefficiency losses) to drive a mile in an electric car... meanwhile a far cheaper ICE vehicle with 33mpg mileage is costing 10 cents a mile. It isnt supposed to be backwards like this.
