I would like to comment on the CMP request for huge hikes in rates for infrastructure. Although there certainly is a need to update and upgrade the electrical distribution system, the cost to consumers (especially consumers on a fixed income) is outrageous. Maine already has one of the highest electrical rates in the country. That being said, it is my opinion that if CMP were not placing as much emphasis on useless renewals and net metering schemes, that the current administration has required, they might have plenty of extra cash for such improvements. Beyond the unreasonable increases, it is clear that some of their reasoning for the need to make improvements is also faulty. Although Maine has experienced a "few" "extreme" storms in recent years, to base infrastructure improvements on such is ludicrous. Unless they have a crystal ball, or some other kind of "future forecasting" information, they obviously have not reviewed extreme weather events for the past 50 to 100 years. If they had they would find that nothing is new, it's happened before. If they had suggested that the upcoming AI revolution will require better infrastructure then it would give a semblance of believability. What we really need is distributed generation that is more reliable, can be dispatched, and provides power in the dark and on windless days along with better distribution. I am firmly against approval of such an exorbitant increase. Get rid of the renewal incentives and get CMP back to delivering reliable power from reliable generation.

No, just no. No to the rate hike. CMP should instead focus on green energy and keeping the existing power grid more dependable.

All units in the complex I reside have electric heat. In the winter I have to bundle up inside to try and keep warm. Without a rate increase, I would have to pay over $300 to be as warm as I would like. If the proposed rate is approved, I most likely will pay $300 a month or more and still have to bundle up inside (that's keeping the thermostat at 67-68 degrees). My apartment is at the end of a four apartment, single story building. The walls, window sills get ice cold, along with the floors. I am 81 years old, on a fixed income, and wonder if seniors or residents of Elderly and Disabled complexes can get some kind of a break. Yes, we do get a utility allowance for which I am very grateful for and for the assistance on monthly rent. If it weren't for the assistance, I would be on the street as another homeless person. I don't know what the solution is as I think Central Maine Power does an excellent job in restoring power, replacing transformers, poles, cutting limbs, and always prepared to have extra help from other states to restore power. Last winter I used as much as 1013 KWH in a month and was bundled up with a fleece lined sweatshirt, a blanket covering my legs, and even had to put on a pair of "heavy" pants on occasion. I'm not sure if I read the proposed increase correctly, but it appears I could pay an additional $30 a month during the coldest month. Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Creighton

CMP sent out three increases back in 2022 or2023 for rate hikes in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Those hikes took my bill from an average of $100.00 to roughly now $300.00 With these new charges for the next five years my electric bill will look more like a car payment or possible a mortgage. When will these big corporations stop. I know a lot of their hikes are more about profits than services for the people. Also, I believe these hikes have more to do with A.I. than service. A.I. is costly to operate, so the cost is going to be passed onto the people. I really hope that the board of Maine's Public Utilities Commision, fight against these new price hikes and let CMP know that the people are note a blank check for their pet projects. Thank you for your time. Have a good day. Sincerely Brenda Creighton

I am very much against a rate increase for CMP. The continued increasing are getting out of hand and my monthly electric bill is becoming unaffordable even with consciously limiting my electrify usage. Very few single family houses uses 550 kph. Mine is at least double that which would mean an increase of over $30 dollars a month. An absolutely unacceptable increase amount that they want on top of everything else increasing such as groceries, health insurance, and car insurance. What happened with the big power grid build through the State of Maine that was supposed to lower our electricity costs. I have only seen increases. DO NOT APPOVE THIS INCREASE! This is very much a hardship for the middle and lower class Mainers already suffering enough financial hardships. Thank you for this opportunity to voice my opinion.

Stop the increases! Please start sticking up for Mainers. Businesses and residents alike are getting hammered by high bills. Enough is enough!

Dear Commission Members, I believe that CMP's rate increase proposal should be approved as they have presented it. My hope is that these cost increases will catch the attention of the Maine voting public and accelerate the process by which the public comes to the realization that our electricity service is too important to be in the hands of a profit making company and instead should be in public control. Yours, Karl Aromaa Tenants Harbor

This plan is absurd. Why are you expecting the consumer to pay for upgrades to your company? This company is based out of Massachusetts it isn't for mainers at all. Why don't your CEO'S and multiple worthless administrators that are making 6 plus figures to sit behind a desk not get bonuses or raises for a year like other jobs do? My power is out every other week and my delivery rates are the same price as my consumption rates is absurd. Your company is a scam and money hungry. You already had to raise our rates to cover overtime you're company had to pay to bring in outside lineman because your system and grid is flawed and outdated. That made zero sense. We the consumer are being punished because you've milked the outdated system for all you could and now that its becoming a serious problem you've had no money set back or in place to upgrade your systems and now you expect the consumer market that is already strained and struggling under your rates and constant outages to once again fork over their money. Its your company you should be doing this out of your pocket not the consumers. We've had steady increases every year and now to ask for this is absurd. Maybe you should audit your own company and trim the fat before you take from a local populace thats already struggling from rising costs and taxes. Maine needs to invest in its own power company and remove Massachusetts from maine people's loves.

The cost of electricity has nearly doubled in the past five years. Any further increase would be devastating. Our family survives on social security disability income and cannot afford another increase in electricity rates. This is not fair to low-income families, disabled people who are unable to work, and any other person on a fixed income who is barely making it month to month.
